Tell us your business story to date...

Thomas travelled and worked overseas and wanted to utilise his experiences of working in restaurants where he found the method of cooking meats low and slow smothered with spices and marinades produced the most succulent meat and fantastic flavours. The culture behind these methods i.e. barbecuing, smoking, is generally one of great social events, partying and having fun and there are increasing numbers of restaurants and chains coming into the UK which adopt this entertainment culture.

Not in the position to open a restaurant ourselves, the obvious choice was to produce the rubs for the consumers so with a bit of brainstorming and a few bottles of wine, our Butt Massage, Rump Rub, Breast Enhancer and All Spice were born and we started selling in March 2015.

We have now produced a range of 9 rubs and continue with the philosophy of ensuring our products deliver great taste that compliments and not overpowers the flavour of the meat.

What can we look forward to seeing from you?

We will continue developing niche ranges of dry rubs to bring to the market with a focus on incorporating new ingredients for new taste experiences.

We want our products to compliment the meat and not overpower or obscure the taste of the meat so we look for spice, herb and flavours that work well in combination.

Everyone has different taste preference but we find that if a product delivers great flavour, the spice level preference can be accommodated by how much or how little you choose to use.

Tell us about your products/services in more detail...

Each of our BOHNS FINEST range is produced for a specific meat application and we have given “real” names and descriptions with this focus in mind.

However, the great flavour of any of our products does mean they are versatile e.g. the rich and deep smoky, earthy taste of BREAST ENHANCER will be delivered equally as well when used on pork, beef or lamb. FISH HOOK used with chicken imparts a great lemon pepper flavour, LAMB’N SEASON is a fantastic condiment seasoning for shepherds pie etc. So it’s all about individual taste as to how you use the products but they are not simply for rubbing on meat, use them as condiment seasonings for everyday recipes and really spice up your cooking

What do you think it takes to become an entrepreneur?

A belief, passion and commitment for what you produce along with a work ethic that says “I want to be successful”. You only have to watch a programme like Dragons Den to realise how hard it is building a business from an idea or concept. You need a product with realistic market potential to develop into a business and the commercial acumen to be able to take it there. Interestingly, the majority of the investments are based on the individuals behind the business so if you have a great product or service you also need the confidence and strength to follow your dream.

Is there anything you can offer to help other startup businesses?

Based on our own experience, the simple advice that we can give is to be passionate about what you do, be prepared to work hard & put the time in and when it comes to the produce 'flavour never goes out of fashion', so be sure to use quality ingredients and maintain your standards.

Is there any help that are you looking for?
